Many times as a traditional classroom teacher, I found myself wondering why so many people seemed to just be getting on with it, whereas I struggled to feel content or at peace with my profession of choice. I realised that I had never really taken the time to determine what was right for me; I was simply unwilling to give up on my dream to be a school teacher, even when deep in my bones I knew it wasn’t right any more. Like many other big life decisions, I had stayed put in my career by default. It was never really a conscious decision to be there as long as I was. I knew there were many other options available, but I felt ‘too busy’ to take the time to explore them. This was largely the result of feeling overwhelmed and pressured by friends, peers and colleagues to do things the conventional way, the way things have always been done. 

It is not always easy to make decisions that go against the grain. Many people feel threatened when those close to them make choices that break the mould. Instead of being busy grinding the axe, it is important that we stop to sharpen it once in a while. These days, I help women like you do exactly that!
